Italy supports Rossi in Marquez row

The President of the Italian Olympic Committee, Giovanni Malagò, harshly criticized the penalty imposed by the International Motorcycling Federation to Valentino Rossi, the famous Italian racer of the Yamaha Team.

Mr Rossi will be forced to start the last race of the world championship, to be held in Valencia, Spain, from the last position of the grid.

The penalty was imposed to Mr Rossi for allegedly kicking another racer, Marc Marquez, during the last race held in Malaysia. Mr Rossi denied doing so. Moreover, he accused Mr Marquez of having boycotted his races in order to favor his Spanish rival Daniel Pedrosa, who could now wrestle the title of world champion from Mr Rossi.

Mr Malagò, while attributing some responsibility to Mr Rossi, stated that the Spanish are trying to “temper with the world championship”.
