Political debate gets gross in Italy

The Italian political debate has never been polite, not even in the Byzantine era of the First Republic, but the last days were even less refined than usual.

In the Municipal Council of Rome, where the Administration has been under fire for months, the Commissioner for Transportation Stefano Esposito (Democratic Party) loudly swore and was forced to apologize on Twitter.

In the nearby Senate, the session was suspended after Lucio Barani, one of Berlusconi’s senators who suddenly passed on the side of the Government, mimed a sexual penetration for Paola Taverna, a senator of the Five Stars Movement.
