The Italian corporation Stonex launched Stonex One, the first smartphone designed in Italy (but assembled in China). The phone is a limited edition and is put for sale in consecutive tranches; the next one is scheduled for September 2.
Believe or not, Italy used to be a leader in the field of IT, thanks to the legendary company Olivetti. Then somehow it lost touch with the computer revolution, and is still lagging behind in the broadband services.
Successive Governments, including the current one, announced plans to “bridge the digital divide”, but for the time being it is still difficult to imagine a consistent Italian role in the digital economy.
