The “right to the beach” in Italy

In Italy, beaches are always State property. When they have some touristic value, they are usually leased to private entrepreneurs willing to operate beach resorts.

However, even if the beach is leased the private operator must allow free access to the water edge, id est the portion of beach within 5 meters from the water.

If anyone tries to deny such access, fell free to appeal to the Authorities. Beaches are under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard.
