Why fuel prices are increasing in Italy

The price of oil has long been falling, but the price of fuel in Italy has not, it even increased.

Someone blames the oil companies, but the evidence against the Italian State is much more damning: the last years have seen a sharp increase in both excise duties and VAT on fuel.

On the other hand, the Government was able to partially offset this trend by liberalizing the market of fuel distribution. Along the Italian roads thus appeared the so-called “white pumps”, which are not owned by the oil companies and manage to offer cheaper fuel.
