Italian Parliament to consider right to strike limitations

After the tourists visiting Italy found havoc in the airports due to a strike of the Alitalia personnel and the visitors of Pompei had the gates of the site shut in their faces for an impromptu trade union assembly, the Parliament could speed up the debate of some Bills aiming at a regulation of the right to strike along European lines.

Before calling a strike, the trade unions could be forced to organize a referendum and obtain the favorable vote of the majority of the workers, or at least a sizable quota.

The right to strike is guaranteed by the Italian Constitution, but a law already regulates its exercise in the sectors involving essential services.
