In the days of the controversy with France over the latter’s decision to seal the Ventimiglia border in order to avoid any passage of immigrants, Italy rediscovered an old controversy related to the demarcation of the Monte Bianco border.
The issue dates back to the XIX century. It is a quite surreal history which includes a treaty with Italy which was (at least officially) lost by the French archives.
Recently the Italian mountain guides reported unlawful activities by the French side, for example the moving forward of a boundary stone which was moved back in its original position by the Italian Authorities.
According to the newspaper La Stampa, the Government ordered the Military Map Institute to say a final word on the issue.
