In the Italian First Republic there used to be a party called “Italian Social Movement”. Its name was inspired by Mussolini’s Italian Social Republic, and its stance about fascism was, in the words of Mussolini’s former Under-Secretary of State Augusto De Marsanich, “do not renegade, do not restore”.
I’m not going to discuss here whether or not ISM was neo fascist.
What’s important is that the Italian Second Republic for sure had no mainstream neo fascist party… until now.
Today what has become the main Italian opposition party, Matteo Salvini’s Northern League, staged a rally in Rome allowing the official participation of Casa Pound, a neo fascist political organization. The deputy leader of Casa Pound took the floor and addressed the crowd, fully endorsing Mr Salvini as his prime ministerial candidate.
