By law the Italian Universities must issue to their students a “University registration book”, some sort of ID with the data of the student, its photo and its academic curriculum. In order to try an exam the student must present its registration book to the Commission; in he passes the exam, the Commission will register its vote in the book. In order to graduate, the student must present his book, complete with the votes of all the required exams, to the University Secretariat which will then schedule a final examination for him.
The Academic Senate of Padua University recently introduced quicker proceedings to allow students who changed sex to modify their registration book and their registration in the University system without waiting for a sex rectification judgement by the Court.
Other major Universities enacted similar rules.
