A dedicated branch of the Italian Military Police obtained from the Swiss Government the restitution of more than 5,000 historical finds worth 5 billion euros. The items had been stolen from various Italian historical sites and smuggled abroad.
The same branch of the Military Police is working together with the Jewish Community of Rome to retrieve a huge historical collection stolen by the Nazi Authorities in 1943. The collection, made mainly of ancient books, was loaded on a train and sent to an unknown location.
The investigators found some trails leading to some Universities in the United States and to former Soviet archives.
