Maria Elena Boschi is Renzi’s Minister for Constitutional Reforms but she is better known – right or wrong – as the pretty face of the Government, and indeed she had – or found – the opportunity to put up at least a couple of stuns for the cameras on behalf of the Government.
Despite the fact that her portfolio does not involve international relations, she was sent by plane to Congo to bring to Italy some local children who, after having been adopted by Italian families, had been unable to expatriate due to bureaucratic and diplomatic problems. On the way back to Italy she was photographed with an ecstatic smile on her face while one the children was braiding her hair.
On Thursday she started consulting her smartphone during a debate in Parliament and was reprimanded by the opposition MP who held the floor. She replied that she had been just received by the Government the announcement that two Italian relief workers kidnapped in Syria had been liberated by the intelligence services.
