In many Italian streets you can still see ornate red mailboxes with the words “Regie Poste” (Royal Mail). Just like in many countries, the national mail is also a national symbol.
However, the Italian Government is going to cut the mail services: for example, mailmen will deliver only one working day in two.
For once, the budget cuts are only one of the reasons. Simply put, the Computer Revolution is leading the people to use less and less the traditional mail. This was encouraged by the Government in the hope of making administrative and judicial proceeding quicker using electronic communication.
The Italian Mail is still State owned.
