Yesterday the Italian professional boxer Lenny Bottai entered the ring in Las Vegas wearing a T-shirt with the words: “No Jobs Act”.
“Jobs Act” is the colloquial name of the reform of labor law enacted by the Italian Government. The reform was harshly criticized by the trade unions and the leftist parties and MPs, despite the fact that the Italian Government is itself leftist, at least in theory.
Mr Bottai has some tattoos with communist symbols and calls himself “the champion of the people”. He comes from Livorno, a traditional stronghold of the left.
Ironically, boxing in Italy is often related to the political right.
Mr Bottai was defeated by the US boxer Jermall Charlo.
