Chinese buses in Rome?

The Commissioner for Transportation of the Municipality of Rome Giorgio Improta announced that ATAC, the municipal subsidiary managing public transport, is negotiating with a Chinese party the lease of a sizable number of buses, more or less one third of its entire fleet.

ATAC, just like its parent Administration, is not financially florid. Some years ago it was involved in a major corruption scandal which today sounds like a premonition of the troubles of the Eternal City.

Rome is also trying to expand its subway network with the addition of a third line.
