Merkel still unsatisfied by Italian reforms

In an interview to the newspaper Die Welt, German Chancellor Angela Merkel labeled the reforms started by Italy (and France) as “insufficient”.

In Italy, where Mrs Merkel has become a very unpopular figure, the Government is instead accused of doing too many concession to neoliberal theories, especially in the recent reform of labor law.

Under-Secretary for European Affairs Sandro Gozi stated that Italy expects “respect” from Germany since “the time for homework assignment is over”.

However, recently the international rating agency Standard and Poor’s issued a report against Italy containing critics very similar to Mrs Merkel’s ones.
