The Brisbane G20 as seen from Italy

The G20 summit held in Brisbane, Australia, was supposed to be all about the economic crisis, but in the end it was dominated by the Ukraine crisis, perhaps also because the said crisis is by now largely confined to Europe.

The press coverage from Italy, however, was largely faithful to the original formula, with Prime Minister Matteo Renzi interviewed mainly about economic issues.

It can be hoped that he obtained by US President Barack Obama some pressure on Germany after Mr Obama’s Secretary of the Treasury, Mr Jack Lew, had harshly criticized the European approach to the solution of the crisis, which was largely dictated by Germany.
