Italy “unprepared to Ebola”

Mr Andrea Bottega, the Secretary General of Nursind, a trade union representing the Italian nursing personnel, denounced that the Italian health authorities neglected to train nurses for the event of an Ebola case. Moreover, many hospitals according to Mr Bottega were not supplied with proper equipment, including suits and masks.

Mr Giuseppe Ippolito, the Scientific Director of the National Institute for Infectious Disease, instead stated that Italy is ready to tackle the virus, adding that the country is not at risk anyhow, since it has not direct air links with affected countries.

After the outbreak of the Ebola emergency, the Ministry of Health updated its contingency plans, dating back to 1996.
