The British newspaper The Telegraph compared Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi to former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi after former Minister Rosy Bindi – who belongs to Mr Renzi’s Democratic Party – had accused the PM of appointing pretty, but incompetent female Ministers.
The comparison between Mr Berlusconi and Mr Renzi has been long debated in Italy. Both leaders have excellent communication skills, appeal to moderate, centrist voters, enjoy a good relationship with the Catholic Church and claim to be strong reformists.
They are also in good terms, often agreeing common policies presented by Mr Berlusconi as “responsible opposition”. The Cavaliere is even rumored to be wooed and charmed by the young Renzi, who he would even consider his political heir.
