Do you want a very precious Italian painting? Well, just enter an Italian church and take it.
That’s exactly what happened in a St Vincent’s Church in Modena in the night between 12 and 13 August. The thieves simply walked in and out undisturbed with a XVII century painting by Guercino worth 5-6 million euros.
The alarm had been deactivated by the Parish due to the lack of funds. There were no guards.
The local Prefecture promised an increase in police surveillance in order to protect art works.
According to the famous Italian critic Vittorio Sgarbi, the painting is impossible to sell, and the thieves will perhaps ask for a ransom.
