Italy greets Christian woman persecuted in Sudan

Mrs Meriam Yehya Ibrahim, a Sudanese citizen who had been arrested twice in her country for converting to the Christian religion, arrived today by airplane in Rome, where she was greeted by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Minister of Foreign Affairs Francesca Mogherini.

The woman, whose arrive in Italy had not been announced, had previously taken shelter in the US Embassy in Khartoum.

It is another unexpected success by the Renzi Government after the quick transfer in Italy of a group of Congolese children adopted by Italian families.

Mrs Mogherini is Mr Renzi’s candidate for the post of Mrs CFSP. Moreover, Mr Renzi himself is showing the achievements of his Government in order to ridicule the opposition, which is trying to stop in Parliament the constitutional reform package sponsored by the Prime Minister.
