Naples crumbling

The famous Umberto I Gallery in Naples was briefly sealed by the police after the fall of a ledge killed a 14-year-old boy. It is the last episode of a long string of similar accidents in the city, often involving historical and supposedly protected sites.

The city subway, which is infamous for its bad service anyway, was often forced to stop its train due to the debris.

Naples, which is perhaps the new heartland of the Italian organized crime taking the place of Sicily, looks affected by the very same neglect and decline of Rome.
