The Soviet secret arms depots in Rome

Rome, city of catacombs and mysteries. A secret bunker built for Mussolini was recently discovered there.

But according to data declassified by the the Churchill Archive Center of the Cambridge University, during the Cold War the Soviet intelligence services built at least three secret arms depots in the capital, to be used by Communist militants in case a rightist coup d’etat was attempted.

It should be noted that the information comes from the documents smuggled to the West by the Soviet defector Vasilij Mitrokhin, whose authenticity is challenged by some historians.
