Italian organized crime angered at Pope Francis

Today in the Italian penitentiary of Campobasso 200 detainees of the maximum security section, jailed for organized crime offenses, refused to attend Mass after Pope Francis’ public excommunication of organized crime members.

During a visit in Calabria two weeks ago the Pope took this strong stance after centuries of a somehow ambiguous relationship between the Holy See and the Southern Italy organized crime.
