Italians have a reputation for being superstitious, especially in Southern Italy.
Apparently, their beliefs are shared by China, whose TV reporter Liu Yuxi is credited with being able to have a team kicked off the World Cup simply by wearing its shirt.
Miss Liu was wearing the shirt of the Italian team when it was beaten by Uruguay and thrown out of the World Cup.
Miss Liu’s case was reported by the Italian press, but luckily for her the Italian public is too busy blaming the coach and the players.
Bearers of bad luck are called in Italian “iettatori”. They have an illustrious place in Italian literature, including Pirandello.
