Syria-bound WMD components seized in Italy

It was recently revealed that the Italian Customs Agency seized in the port of La Spezia 9 containers full of special steel bars which could be used to build weapons of mass destruction.

The containers were going to be delivered to a Lebanese company which would probably have smuggled the bars into Syria.

The ship carrying the containers arrived in Italy from China.

The Syrian Government, engaged in a civil war against the opposition and Islamic groups, was accused of usingĀ unconventional weapons in its own territory. However, Damascus contended that such weapons were instead used by terrorists.
