The agony of Rome continues

On Friday thousands of employees of the Municipality of Rome, including Municipal Police personnel, went on strike to protest against the salary cuts imposed by the Municipality which has been at risk of bankruptcy.

The Italian capital looks unable to find respite amid scandals, a disastrous financial situation and a general discontent against Mayor Ignazio Marino, who however inherited an agonizing city from his predecessor Gianni Alemanno.

Civil servants are allowed to strike in Italy.
