Five Stars Movement soften tones after electoral defeat

In an unexpected show of self criticism Mr Beppe Grillo, the leader of the Five Stars Movement, published a post on his blog advocating for the use of softer and more responsible tones by his followers and MPs. The defeat of the Movement in the last European elections is widely attributed to its exceedingly aggressive electoral campaign, which allowed adversaries to compare the Movement to the dissolved Fascist Party.

It is obviously impossible to change in a fortnight, and in fact today a Movement MP, Mr Michele Giarrusso, advocated for the “guillotining” of corrupted politicians. Mr Giarrusso later rectified his statement, explaining that he was metaphorically calling for more severe penalties.
