The beach, an Italian rite

From late May to early September, in Italy every sunny weekend is good to go to the beach. You will need to survive a huge traffic jam, and it will be crowded as hell, but you simply can’t escape it: it is a collective rite. You don’t need to be young, or thin, to wear a bathing suit: it is socially acceptable for everyone.

Honestly, Italians are not alone during this D-Day-style assault to the beaches. They are joined by many foreign tourists, especially German. At least for now. But for how long the old Italian beaches will be able to resist to cheap international holiday packages and a more sophisticated tourism industry ?
