Following the directions of Prime Minister and Party Secretary Matteo Renzi, the Democratic Party MPs authorized the execution of a warrant of arrest against their colleague Francantonio Genovese, who was put under investigation for serious offences by the Messina District Attorney’s Office.
Mr Berlusconi’s party, which traditionally doesn’t trust the judiciary, voted against the arrest.
Mr Genovese surrendered to the guards of the local penitentiary in Messina.
Mr Renzi hopes that the move will further boost his popularity before the European elections. Today he downplayed the very negative data released on Italian economy and ruled out any extraordinary Budget Bill.
