Tomorrow in Florence, the birthplace of Italian language, will be held the finals of the Italian Language Olympic Games, organized by the Italian Ministry of Education under the aegis of the President’s Office.
Students from Italian and foreign High Schools were allowed to compete, and indeed not all the finalists are Italian. Miss Elena Kostova is from Sofia, Bulgaria. Miss Sessen Daniel Iohannes is from Asmara, Eritrea. Mr Ibinabo Kilali David-West is from Lagos, Nigeria.
Luckily, it appears that Dante’s language still yields some worldwide appeal. The promotion of the (supposedly huge) Italian cultural soft power abroad is a task of the Italian Culture Institutes, answering to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
