New Italian Minister of Defense plans aggressive cuts to Armed Forces

Italian “tankettes” parading in 1938. They would be used during World War II. No, it’s not photoshopped.

Under the Monti Government, the Italian Armed Forces got an admiral as Minister of Defense. But Renzi’s new Minister, Mrs Roberta Pinotti, is singing on a very different tune.

Mrs Pinotti stated that the controversial purchase of new F38 fighter jets for the Air Force could be “reviewed”. 385 military bases will be closed down and sold. In 2024, the Ministry of Defense will have lost 40,000 soldiers and 10,000 civilian employees.

The Navy had earlier complained that it is going to simply disappear for lack of ships.
