After a slim start, Mr Renzi appointed 44 Under-Secretaries of States, including 9 Deputy Ministers.
Under-Secretary Marco Minniti will supervise the intelligence services, the same task he had received by Mr Letta.
Under-Secretaries of States respond to a Minister who devolves to them a given share of his competencies. Only the Under-Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office can take part to Cabinet meetings, but without voting.
The title of Deputy Minister, conferred to some Under-Secretaries, is largely honorific.
