Italian Government buries Abu Omar case

The Italian Supreme Court ordered to archive the case against five members of the Italian intelligence services, including high-ranking officers Mr Nicolò Pollari and Mr Marco Mancini.

The case was related to the extraordinary rendition of radical imam Abu Omar, but was blocked by the Government by declaring the file a secret of State.

A different standard was applied to the US officers involved, with the Italian Courts virtually wiping out the CIA network in Italy. The US officers had to leave the country, and one was even briefly detained in Panama.
