A bomb, perhaps a chemical one, found in the luggage of an Egyptian national by Swiss customs officers aboard a train from Paris to Venice. It sound like a novel by Agatha Christie, but it actually happened on Thursday.
Another attack dodged by Italy. The country never suffered a real event linked to international terrorism, despite being certainly a target. It envelops the Vatican, it is full of Christian symbols, it still has some old fascist laws imposing the present of the crucifix in public places which are often challenged by Islamic immigrants, it doesn’t allow the building of real mosques with minarets.
Perhaps it is just luck, perhaps it is a police hardened by decades of fight against internal terrorism by extremist organizations and organized crime. Perhaps there is even some truth in the claim by the Government that Italy was able to build a friendly image in the Arab world.
