A parliamentary committee rejected today the request to impeach President Giorgio Napolitano presented by the Five Stars Movement.
Mr Berlusconi’s party, despite some threats uttered yesterday against the President, did not take part to the vote.
Mr Napolitano didn’t seem scared anyway, and in no way he attempted to keep the low profile which is typical of the Italian quasi-monarchic Presidency.
Indeed, yesterday he sent an open letter to the Corriere, the main national newspaper, denying any wrongdoing in the events which led to the appointment of the technocratic Government headed by Mr Mario Monti.
Today he had a meeting in his official residence on the Quirinale Hill (the Italian President always summons people, he never visits them) with Democratic Party secretary Matteo Renzi, who is unsatisfied with the performance of the Letta Government. Mr Letta labeled as “science fiction” the rumors about his imminent resignation.
