Maserati, a luxury brand of the FIAT Chrysler Group, aired its first ever commercial during the Super Bowl: another signal of the Americanization of FIAT.
Founded in 1914 by a race driver, it produced its first model in 1926. The “Type 26” already bore the famous trident, Maserati’s signature.
After World War II, legendary champions like Alberto Ascari and Juan Manuel Fangio drove Maserati cars.
In 1968 it was purchased by French Citroen. Reverted to Italian hands in 1975, it became part of the FIAT Group in 1997 and then again in 2005.
