After the Mayor of New York, also the President of the United States intoned the song – so popular in Italy – about the uselessness of University studies and the potential of manual work.
In a common variation, President Obama focused on humanistic studies, stating that young Americans should rather work in a factory. The White House tried later to partially rectify the President’s statement.
Anyway these are worrying news for the enemies of graduate studies in Italy. If in the United States, where Universities are incomparably more expensive than in Italy, there are still too many people enrolling, even in humanistic courses, their fight could be a really hard one, especially in a country with such a strong humanistic tradition.
