The chief of the Italian Privacy Authority, Mr Antonello Soro, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Enrico Letta asking for urgent clarification over the alleged tapping of international electronic communications by U.S. agencies.
Today, the Parliamentary Committee for Intelligence will hear Mr Marco Minniti, the Under-Secretary of State supervising the Intelligence Services.
Despite being a staunch U.S. ally, in the past Italy proved able to challenge Washington on single issues. However, the Government is currently busy drafting the Budget Law, keeping together the grand coalition supporting it and deciding the fate of Mr Berlusconi.
The public doesn’t seem very interested in the international tapping scandal either.
