British Airways attack Italy over aid to Alitalia

IAG, the holding controlling British Airways (and the Spanish Iberia) “expects” the Commission to block the plans by the Italian Government to grant aid to Alitalia.

Officially, the money would come from the Italian Mail, which is officially a private corporation… wholly owned by the Italian Treasury.

Italy has a tradition of helping out national big corporation like FIAT, especially against foreign takeovers.

However, the border fence has started to crumble, with the Antonveneta Bank bought by Dutch group ABN-Amro in 2006, despite defensive maneuvers and intrigues by the Government and the Bank of Italy.
