According to the newspaper La Stampa, Pope Francis is considering a reform of canonical proceedings against priests suspected of pedophile acts.
According to the canon law in force, such proceedings are reserved to the Holy See, id est they must take place in Rome. This is a way to emphasize the gravity of similar crimes, but even for the Roman Curia it is difficult to keep under control thousands of priests all over the world. Also for this reason, perhaps, Church justice seemed slow and ineffective to many.
The new Pope could now allow local Church Courts to try suspected priest, which should allow quicker verdicts.
