Berlusconi resigned to expulsion from Parliament

Yesterday Berlusconi’s TV channels aired a much-awaited video message recorded by the Cavaliere to state his position after a final conviction for tax fraud is going to throw him out of the Parliament.

Mr Berlusconi said that he will stay in politics “no matter the expulsion”, which means that he has lost any hope that the Senate will refuse to execute the judgement by the Supreme Court. Therefore, for now at least, Berlusconi’s expulsion will not provoke the fall of the Letta Government.

However, as soon as Berlusconi is no more a MP, any District Attorney’s Office in the country will be able to ask a judge to issue a warrant of arrest against him: something which could destroy the very fragile balance of Italian politics.
