Italians selling their jewels due to crisis

According to a report by the Eurispes Institute, during the current year one Italian on four sold gold or jewels to goldsmiths.

Goldsmiths’ shops specialized in buying gold and jewels have been multiplying in Italy, being now a common sight in Italian streets.

Such business is at risk of criminal infiltration. During this year, the Italian Tax Police seized 179 kilos of gold and arrested 52 people for offences related to gold trafficking. A usual pattern of such trafficking involves the gold being smuggled to Switzerland.
