On Sunday a U.S. tourist visiting the Cathedral Opera Museum in Florence gave a high five to a statue by Giuseppe d’Ambrogio, damaging its hand.
The tourist was immediately stopped by the security and reported to the Police. It is not known whether the District Attorney’s Office will file charges.
The episode will probably reignite the Italian debate on the commercial exploitation of cultural assets and their custody.
The Government has just issued a Decree trying to strengthen the protection of the cultural heritage, in particular the controversial Pompei site.
