During its tenure, the Italian technocratic Government tried to address the problem of the Italian TV, often accused of being “trashy”.
Now that Government is gone, but the new technocratic President of the Italian State TV, Anna Maria Tarantola, is still in charge.
Mrs Tarantola recently announced that the Italian State TV will stop airing “The Celebrity Island” and “Miss Italy”, the national beauty contest won by Sophia Loren in 1950.
Miren, the corporation organizing the contest, is not going to accept the decision without a fight. The lawyer of Miren, Prof Carlo Rienzi, is ready to go to the Court of Audits, since the new State TV management is refusing to air a show which always had very high ratings, thus depriving the Treasury of noteworthy commercial revenues.
