U.S. financier George Soros was awarded the Terzani Prize for an essay on the international crisis.
Mr Soros received the prize yesterday in Udine. During the ceremony, he released some controversial statements on his infamous 1992 attack against lira, claiming it was a ‘legitimate financial operation’ inspired by public documents published by the German Central Bank.
According to Mr Soros, ‘speculators just do their job, they have no fault. It is the fault of legislators allowing speculation to take place. Speculators are just messengers of bad news’.
Mired in political controversy, Italy was too busy to reply.
