The Court of Appeals of Milan upheld the jail sentence against Mr Silvio Berlusconi for tax fraud which, if confirmed by the Supreme Court, would throw him out of the Parliament if not in jail.
Berlusconi, however, is not unprepared. After all, he survived to countless investigations and trials.
As usual, he ordered his party to organize a public protest against his ‘judicial harassment’, which will take place tomorrow in Brescia, a political fief of the Cavaliere.
Moreover, he had his close associate Francesco Nitto Palma appointed President of the Justice Committee of the Senate.
Finally, he had his preferred candidate, Mr Giorgio Santacroce, elected First President of the Supreme Court by the Higher Council of the Judiciary. Seven members of the Council voted against Mr Santacroce.
The new Minister of Justice is Anna Maria Cancellieri, who was Mr Monti’s Minister of the Interior.
