Miss Sara Mahmoud, a 21-year-old girl, is an Italian citizen. Her parents are Egyptian, she is Muslim and wears the hijab, a veil not covering her face.
An event management agency cited the hijab as the reason for not hiring her as a hostess, despite her good looks, unless she was willing to remove it during working hours.
Miss Mahmoud was angered by this condition, and she summoned the agency to Court.
The Italian law does not allow to have someone’s face covered in public places. Therefore niqab and burqa are forbidden, but hijab is perfectly legal.
