French gay marriage law brings Europe ‘on the verge of abyss’, say Italian Bishops

the abyss

Pursuant to President Hollande’s electoral agenda, the French National Assembly approved yesterday a law allowing gay marriage.

The reaction by the Italian Catholic Church was very harsh, as embodied in the words of the President of the Bishops’ Conference, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco.

Cardinal Bagnasco stated: ‘We are approaching the abyss. [Italy] should not follow these examples having extremely dangerous consequences. Let us not follow this path. Europe has forgotten her Christian roots, the roots of her culture and her civilization. Many European countries enacted wrong laws on life, family, freedom, they are not growing into a more human and united civilization, but into a more individualist and regressive’.
