Legendary Argentinian football player Diego Armando Maradona won a long lawsuit against the Italian treasury, which was accusing him of tax avoidance. The treasury had asked Mr. Maradona to pay 40 million euros.
The Central Tax Commission, an Italian administrative tribunal, quashed some tax injunctions issued by the Italian Internal Revenue Service against Mr. Maradona and other professional football players.
Mr. Maradona played in Italy for the Naples football from 1984 to 1991.
He always denied to have tried to defraud the Italian State.
‘He can now come back to Italy as a free man,’ said Mr. Maradona’s lawyer, Angelo Pisani.
No warrant of arrest was ever issued by the Italian Authorities against Mr. Maradona, however.
