Roma communities in Italy are nearly all nomadic, and they have a reputation of making their living from illegal activities. Truth or prejudice? It’s not important. What this article wants to register is that the relationship of Roma communities with the Italian public and authorities is deteriorating rather than improving, after so many international and European projects trying to address the issue.
In the last months, even leftist local politicians made suggestions which were never heard before, like the introduction of segregated buses for Roma in order to curtail their alleged practice of pickpocketing. Roma families are also reportedly involved in abusive dwelling.
No solution is in sight.
